At the age of seven Richard decided to become a professional artist but it took nine more years until he took part in his first exhibition.

At the age of twenty-one Richard went to live in Sweden where he pursued a strange existence teaching English, reading for the blind, working for Swedish Radio and, of course, drawing and painting. He notched up some major successes in his career during his fifteen years or so in Sweden and many of his paintings and scraperboards are on display in public buildings in Stockholm and throughout the country.

Richard started the business, based on pyrography, in 1982 after working for many years as an artist in oils and watercolours. Other skills include Calligraphy and all the usual art media.

In 1984 a studio/workshop was opened at Corris Craft Centre and Richard's reputation as a leading pyrographer began to grow.

The following commissions are among many completed at the Craft Centre.

Add to this a vast array of private commissions.

In 1999 Richard, with a number of other interested people, founded the Welsh Timber Forum to support those businesses involved with Welsh timber and provide a networking organisation to promote the use of Welsh timbers. He was elected the first Company Secretary and is the present chairman.

Richard left the Craft Centre in October 2002 and has written a book on Welsh love spoons and has begun a book on pyrography.

Currently, Richard is working as Managing Director of Signs Workshop Ltd in Coed y Brenin.
